Happy to announce our new Tuesday and Wednesday New Orleans Music Show hosts!
Cole Williams will be filling the show host seat on the Tuesday edition of the New Orleans Music Show, 11a-2p. In addition to her DJing skills, Cole fronts an African rock band with a pioneering sound and engaging stage presence. She joined WWOZ as a volunteer a few years ago and has been a steady presence at the station in a variety of facets ever since. Her foundation in classical piano (ages 4-17), church upbringing, and childhood love affair with her parents record collection provided her with the roots to broaden and she's never stopped since! Check out Cole's performance of 'Little Me' at WWOZ earlier this year below.
Derrick Freeman is our new host of the Wednesday New Orleans Music Show from 11a-2p. In addition to his skills on-air, Derrick is also a talented musician-- his work includes twenty years of percussion for Kermit Ruffins & the BBQ Swingers along with a handful of other prominent New Orleans bands. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of New Orleans under the direction of Ellis Marsalis and Harold Batiste and has appeared in a number of TV/film productions, including HBO's Treme. Derrick's been a longtime vocal supporter of OZ. Check out his group, Soul Brass Band, live at WWOZ during our 2015 Fall Pledge Drive with an awesome cover of Nirvana's 'In Bloom' below.
