WWOZ is saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Oliver "Squirky Man" Hunter, Jr.

For many years, Oliver was very active in the culture of New Orleans, with the Tambourine and Fan organization and Sudan Social Aid & Pleasure Club, and serving as a Grand Marshal for many jazz funerals and special events across the city.

His last major event was WWOZ's celebratory second line on November 28, as we moved to our new home in the Jax Brewery in the French Quarter.

The entire WWOZ family sends our thoughts and best wishes to Oliver's family and friends, and we also want to express our appreciation for his many dedicated years of keeping alive the culture of New Orleans.

James Andrews & the Crescent City All-Stars will be hosting a celebration of life for Hunter at Tuba Fats Square on Monday, March 11 starting at 5pm.
