Old Man River is heading to Suwannee Spring Reunion

Well, it’s about to officially be festival season. What is the official kick off for you for your festival season?  For myself, festival season officially kicks off in March with the Suwannee Spring Reunion at the Spirit of the Suwanee Music Park, just a seven hour drive from New Orleans in Live Oak Florida.

This year’s music schedule is full of many festival regulars who make this festival what it is, as well as some significant first timers. This years lineup should lead to a real barnburner of a weekend with artists such as Sam Bush, Railroad Earth, Steep Canyon Rangers, Peter Rowan, Keller Williams, Darrell Scott, Bettye LaVette, The Steel Wheels, Donna the Buffalo, Roy Book Binder, Fireside Collective, Jon Stickley Trio, Town Mountain, Seth Walker, Verlon Thompson, Shawn Camp, Jeff Mosier Ensemble, Grass is Dead and many more, performing on four stages and offering lectures and workshops throughout the weekend. There are also two small late night stages in the campground for all night picking sessions.

With it roots going back to the mid 90s, the festival has had a few name changes, but its spirit has remained since its inception. This has evolved into one of the best celebrations of Americana Music anywhere, and the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park might be the most comfortable and accommodating festival location anywhere.

Two things set this festival apart from others. First is the  eclectic blend of music and workshops, second are the facilities,  which are over the top. The campground itself  offers a full service restaurant, bar, golf cart rentals, disc golf course, cabins, boat rentals, bike trails, swimming, campsites with hookups or primitive, plenty of clean restrooms and showers and the beautiful scenic and historic Suwannee River. There are plenty of tickets and camping opportunities available.

I’ll be attending again this year, waving and flying WWOZ flags around the festival, as well as reporting back here. I’m including a few pictures from last year’s festival.
Allphotos are from Suwannee Spring Reunion 2023.

Please tune into Homespun Americana for a special Suwannee edition where I'll feature music and interviews from artists who will be performing at this year's Suwannee Spring Reunion on Sunday March 17 at 2pm. See ya on the radio.
