Swingin’ Gypsies

The New Orleans Swingin’ Gypsies embody the spirit of the classic swing era, but give it a punk rock twist that keeps the music fresh and spirited, and keeps the dancers on the floor. The band has roots in both San Diego and in New Orleans, where Crescent City native John Saavedra channels the spirit of Django Reinhardt into an energetic, New Orleans-inflected guitar sounds while partner Giselle Anguizola offers evocative vocals and dance moves, all with a rotating cast of performers. Their 2019 album, “Hot Boudin,” was nominated for a top award by Offbeat’s Best of the Beat.
