Soul Brass Band is the brainchild of percussionist and raconteur Derrick “Smoker” Freeman, aided and abetted by Billboard-charting saxophonist and vocalist James Martin and a band of all-star New Orleans musicians, including Terrance Taplin, Leon “Kid Chocolate” Brown, and Michael Watson.  From Tipitina’s to Telluride to The North Sea Jazz Festival, the Soul Brass Band offers a dynamic and fresh interpretation of the brass band canon that blends deep street rhythms with soul sounds, jazz stylings, and Freeman’s charismatic stage presence.
