Lars Edegran & the Palm Court Jazz Band represent some of the best traditional jazz offered in the Crescent City. The veteran musician and bandleader most often plays piano, guitar, or banjo but has been known to perform on the mandolin, clarinet, or saxophone when the mood is right. Edegran, born in Stockholm, moved to New Orleans in 1966 and has been called “Scandanavia’s gift to jazz” by prestigious author Jason Berry. He has performed with a Who’s Who of jazz greats ranging from Earl Hines to George Lewis, from Percy Humphrey to Billie and DeDe Pierce, and carries their legacy forward in his work with younger musicians. He founded the New Orleans Ragtime Orchestra early in his career; the current iteration, the Palm Court Jazz Band, is a stalwart defender of the traditional New Orleans jazz form.
