Cactus Thief is a roots rock band that draws on Cajun, country, and gospel influences, all flavored with South Louisiana swamp water. The group – with sometimes four, sometimes six musicians – is fronted by songwriter Aaron Maras, who was born in New York but raised in New Orleans. On songs like “Nicotenia” their close harmonies and well-written lyrics evoke early Byrds, while the title cut to their 2016 album Two Bells calls to mind mid-career Dylan; catchy hooks and grooves will keep toes tapping.
