Bettis + 3rd Degree combines drummer extraordinaire Danovon Calhoun-Bettis, the self-styled “Original Hot Boy of Frenchmen” with a powerhouse 13-member band, including a horn and rhythm section, guitar and keyboard. Bettis, a young lion musician and entrepreneur, attended prestigious St. Augustine High School, where he was head Drum Major of the world-renowned Marching 100 band. Inspired by The Roots, Bettis developed a musical ethos that seeks to unite across genres and turf boundaries; indeed, Bettis + 3rd Degree’s energetic music brings together elements of funk, hip hop, R&B, and New Orleans percussive stylings. While they can be heard playing around the city in a variety of settings, at least once a week they can be found earning their nickname as The Hot Boys of Frenchmen Street.
