Here's a sampling of some of the June festivals in Louisiana.
Back to the Beach Festival
The Back to the Beach Festival is a popular one held from May 30 - June 1, in Kenner, at the lake at the end of Williams Boulevard. Besides good local music, there is also a car show to benefit the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation.
Opelousas Spice and Music Festival
The Opelousas Spice and Music Festival held June 6-8 at the Evangeline Downs Racetrack features a spice cook-off and a pepper-eating contest, along with some good zydeco music.
Cajun Day Festival
On June 7th, closer to home at the American Legion Hall in St. Rose, is the Cajun Day Festival. This event sponsored by the Cajun French Music Association has food and music, of course.
Vieux-To-Do
The newly renamed Vieux-To-Do features a half-mile-wide music and food festival, June 13th to the 15th in the Vieux Carré/French Market area. Included are the Creole Tomato Fest, the New Orleans Seafood Festival, and the Cajun-Zydeco Festival!
Soul Fest
The same weekend is the Soul Fest June 14-15, Uptown at Audubon Zoo. This fest showcases handmade arts and crafts, Creole cuisine and soul food.
Crab Cook-Off Festival
Out in Lacombe, they have a Crab Cook-Off Festival June 21st - 22rd at John Davis Park, U.S. 190 and Twelfth Street. Music, crab and seafood dishes, cooking competitions, crafts, rides and music are featured. What more could you want?
Le Festival de Viande Boucanée
Le Festival de Viande Boucanée on June 27th and 28th in Ville Platte features nothing other than smoked meats. There will food booths, music, a heritage expo, cooking contest and demonstrations.
Pridefest 2008
Back home in the Marigny, Pridefest 2008 will be held June 28th and 29th, in Washington Square Park. It's a gay pride event, with entertainment, music, drag shows, food, contests and a French Quarter parade.
