The Pitot House Crepuscule Concert

"Crepuscule" means twilight, and that’s exactly when this one-of-a-kind event gets underway to celebrate New Orleans preservation.

Enjoy breezes from Bayou St. John, while listening to the music of composer-vocalist Topsy Chapman and Preservation Hall's own Hot Four. Also on the program is Ben Jaffe, son of Preservation Hall founders Allan and Sandra Jaffe, who will speak on Preservation Hall's role in perpetuating and preserving the unique musical style that is New Orleans jazz. As well, musician-author Tom Sancton will share intimate views from his memoir, Song for My Fathers: A New Orleans Story in Black and White which details his experiences learning jazz at the hands of Preservation Hall greats in the early 1960s.

The Pitot House benefit concert will be broadcast live on WWOZ from 5:30 - 7:30 Sunday, April 20th.

Guests can enjoy picnic suppers by Savvy Gourmet and a cash bar by Cork & Bottle. A silent auction will include artwork by Tony Green and Mario Villa and a four-night stay in Napa Valley. All proceeds benefit the Louisiana Landmark Society’s Pitot House Museum and Garden, the only colonial-era country house on Bayou St. John that is open to the public. All tickets include a future private docent-led tour of the House.

When: Sunday, April 20, 2008 (rain date: April 23). Doors open at 4:30 p.m.; concert at 5:00 p.m.
