Davell Crawford is renowned as the Piano Prince of New Orleans and his new solo piano CD for Basin Street Records can attest to that. The company has released the first of six previously recorded solos as a CD set called“Piano from the Vaults”. Davell remembers his first experiences with the instrument, “piano just led me to that key and led me to that sound, that’s what most pianos do. When I touch the piano at a sound check, that determines a lot of what I’m going to play that night and how much of my soul that I’ll give away. I’m just privileged to be able to not only play differently but to allow myself to listen to my inner spirit and change a whole set.” Davell has been in front of a keyboard since 2 years old, which speaks of the potential he exhibited early in life, the potential he has lived up to throughout his successful, three decades-long career. He journeys back to his hometown tonight to celebrate this special recording.
