Takin' It To The Roots

Friday, October 28, 2016 - 7:15pm to Saturday, October 29, 2016 - 7:30pm
Work on your footwork and get that second-line umbrella ready for the New Orleans premiere of "Takin' It to the Roots," a new, exhilarating performance work by Michelle N. Gibson. Gibson, displaced by Hurricane Katrina and now living in Dallas, is homegrown, hailing from the Algiers and Uptown areas of New Orleans. Made possible, in part, by support from an NPN Performance Residency Program, the performance is choreographed and performed by Gibson. Her “communal ritual” falls within the style that she describes as “Second Line Aesthetic.” And of course, when the music strikes up, no one can sit still in their seats. With the Free Agents Brass Band providing the music, the evening ends with a full-blown second line, with the audience literally dancing in the streets. Be in that number! Call (504) 569-9070.
